Four talented alien musicians are abducted by a record producer who disguises them as humans and reprograms them to forget their true identities and play callous corporate pop as The Crescendolls. At one point, a football match is shown on a monitor; the teams are Japan and France. The two collaborators, Daft Punk and Leiji Matsumoto, are French and Japanese respectively. This movie is magical, the soundtrack is amazing, it feels like you’re being lifted up in the air, it’s like. ; it’s like you’re “aerodynamic”. The story might seem pretty simple, it’s basically a "digital love" story where the hero will have to be "harder, better, faster, stronger" to save the woman of his dreams and her music band (the “Crescendolls”) from an evil record producer. Leiji Matsumoto’s animation is so beautiful; for example, the "night vision" you get of a city on Earth (probably inspired by Tokyo) is breathtaking. But the real “superheroes” of this movie are Daft Punk. These guys understood that good music can create a "high life", they knew how to move us, how to discover "something about us". Let them take you on this space journey, whether it’s a "traveler" or not, you will find it "veridis quo". It’s a "short circuit" (only 68 min, the length of the album "Discovery"), but at the end, when you find "face to face" with yourself, you can only feel as if you want something more, as if it had never been "too long".
