Abrams’ “Lost” almost had a completely different cast

Plot

Survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island… J.J. See which A-listers didn’t make it onto one of the most popular TV shows of all time. Sawyer’s character was originally supposed to be an older, handsome, suit-wearing urban crook from Buffalo, NY.

But when Josh Holloway forgot a line during auditions and then kicked a chair in frustration and swore loudly, the writers liked the edge he gave Sawyer’s character and decided to write Sawyer as a more Southern, darker drifter. Jin and Sun are married and share the last name “Kwon,” which becomes a major plot point in the final season. But when Koreans get married, the wife never takes her husband’s last name. In fact, in Korea, it’s not even allowed to marry with the same last name, except in rare circumstances..

The strange opening credits were created by J.J. Abrams on his laptop in black and white as a tribute to The Twilight Zone. I’ve watched a lot of TV in my life, maybe too much. But this is the best show I’ve seen in ages.

You just can’t predict what’s going to happen. Every week the show seems to tell me something new about the island and its people. I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what’s going to happen, then before I know it, the show is over and I have to wait to find out what happens next. Absolutely riveting!

This show is amazing and I hope they keep it going because often fantastic shows in the US get cancelled because the ratings start to dip a bit or the executives think the shows are too weird

I really hope the series continues so we can catch it here in England because it is a fantastic show and I would love to have a DVD of this series so I can hook all my friends up.

KJ and Dan are struggling to communicate. A few years into a strained relationship, the couple takes a weekend trip to a friend’s cabin to recapture their romance… only to find a dying-but-not-quite-dead mouse stuck to a glue trap. They disagree about how to handle, KJ advocating for a swift death while Dan proposes making the mouse’s last moments as pleasant as possible. The couple compromises and moves on, slowly finding their way back to each other in this idyllic setting. Unfortunately, their serenity is broken by the arrival of a small woman who can be charitably described as “eccentric” – she’s their host’s younger sister and had no idea anyone was staying at the family cabin. No problem if she crashes, right? As the couple struggles to juggle this interloper on top of their already tense dynamic, KJ and Dan begin to worry this obnoxious third wheel may threaten more than their relationship…

Anchored by Fernanda Torres’ powerful performance as the matriarch Eunice, the film explores the horrors of the Brazilian dictatorship without ever becoming moralistic or intrusive

An adaptation of Marcel Rubens’ novel Paiva, “I’m Still Here” actually improves on the book by focusing on the Paiva family and how each member is surprised and heartbroken by the passing of their father (played with deep affection by Selton Mello). Focusing on the human aspects and the sense of loss of those who never receive answers about the disappearance of a loved one, the script becomes increasingly powerful as the story unfolds. All the performances by the young actors are first-rate – a rare feat in Brazilian cinema – but it is Fernanda Torres’s remarkably restrained performance that really sticks in the mind.

She is gripping and moving, without ever being melodramatic, in a masterpiece

This is the best Brazilian film in recent years, a gift from director Walter Salles (“Central Station”). Note the brief but powerful cameo by Fernanda Montenegro (Oscar nominee for “Central Station”) at the end. “I’m Still Here” is a film to love and hold on to.
